I did a system restore to before this past weekend (before the rain which also got rid of a lot of the recent updates) and that didn't stop the hard drive It will appear the mouse has frozen and I will hear the tell tale sound of a drive spinning up...after which the mouse acts normally. EDIT: I don't think there's physical damage to the HDD, because when I leave CPUID HWmonitor running in the background, my HDD doesn't get shut down since it's being accessed constantly.
